THY’s direct flights to Detroit started

Turkish Airlines (THY) reached its 13th flight destination in the USA by launching a direct flight from Istanbul Airport to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

According to the statement made by THY Press Office, the airline’s first flight to Detroit was welcomed at the airport with traditional water ornaments.

A welcome event was held at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, attended by THY executives and local officials.

In his speech at the ceremony, THY Board of Directors and Executive Committee Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat touched upon the importance of the Detroit destination for the company and said:

“We are excited to bring Istanbul together with Detroit, offering travel, business and cultural discovery opportunities. We have brought our two major cities, Istanbul and Detroit, closer together. We continue to offer the highest quality service while allowing our passengers to explore the world with our unique flight network. As the national flag carrier of our beautiful country Turkiye, we reach more countries than any other airline in the world, and by adding new destinations such as Detroit to our ever-expanding network, we continue to serve our core mission, which is to unite people and cultures around the world.”

As of November 15, Detroit flights will be operated between Istanbul Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with Boeing 787-9. Istanbul-Detroit flights will operate four days a week as of December 25. With the Detroit flights, THY increased its flight network to 345 and increased the number of destinations in the United States to 13.
