Turkish Ship Management Company to Enhance Fleet Connectivity with SpaceX Starlink

Beks Shipmanagement & Trading, a leading maritime company based in Turkey, has initiated the deployment of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite connectivity system across its extensive fleet of 40 bulkers and tankers. This move represents a significant step forward in enhancing maritime communication for the company.
The ambitious project is set to be executed in collaboration with Navarino, a maritime satellite communications service provider that is an authorized Starlink integrator in the region. Navarino will be responsible for the supply and installation of the Starlink systems on Beks’ fleet, ultimately transforming the way these ships operate and stay connected while at sea.
Dimitrios Chatzitzanos, the Managing Director for Germany at Navarino, expressed their delight at being chosen as the provider for this essential project. They highlighted the profound impact that Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite service will have on Beks’ operations and crew members’ quality of life. “We are delighted that Beks has chosen Navarino to equip Starlink’s LEO service across their fleet,”said Chatzitzanos. “With Starlink onboard, ship operations will be enhanced and they will be in a position to experience connectivity speeds that are comparable to those on shore, while at the same time improving their seafarers’ morale thanks to this super-fast internet access to keep them in touch with their loved ones,” they stated in a press release.

The advantages of implementing Starlink Internet in the maritime industry are manifold. Firstly, it offers high-speed and reliable internet connectivity, ensuring that crew members can access vital information, communicate with their families, and stay connected to the outside world during long voyages across remote oceans. Furthermore, this technology enhances business communications for companies like Beks, enabling real-time data exchange, remote monitoring of ship systems, and efficient coordination with onshore operations. The low latency and high bandwidth of the Starlink satellites in LEO make it an ideal solution for addressing the unique connectivity challenges faced by vessels at sea.

Navarino shares that it deployed Starlink in the maritime sector launch last year and have installed the hardware for several prominent shipping companies, including: Costamare, Atlantic Bulk, Grace Management, Danaos Shipping, and Blue Planet. As more maritime companies recognize the potential of Starlink, it is expected that the maritime industry as a whole will continue to embrace this innovative satellite technology to improve efficiency, safety, and the well-being of crew members at sea with reliable internet connectivity.
