Turkiye: Deposits of the banking sector increased by ₺164.3 billion

Total deposits of the banking sector increased by ₺164.3 billion in the week ending December 29, reaching ₺15 trillion 231.7 billion.

Weekly money and bank statistics were published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkiye (CBRT). Accordingly, total deposits in the banking sector (including interbank) increased by ₺164 billion 259 million 408 thousand in the week ending December 29, reaching ₺15 trillion 231 billion 693 million 160 thousand.

In the same period, TL deposits in banks increased by 0.56% to ₺8 trillion 795 billion 177 million 808 thousand, and foreign currency (FX) deposits increased by 0.35% to ₺5 trillion 827 billion 59 million 666 thousand.

While total FX deposits in banks amounted to $209 billion 67 million last week, $176 billion 157 million of this amount was collected in the accounts of domestic residents.

Considering the data adjusted for parity effect, there was a decrease of $1 billion 352 million in the total FX deposits of domestic residents as of December 29.

Installment commercial loan amount increased

Consumer loans in deposit banks increased by 1.10% last week and reached ₺1 trillion 427 billion 591 million 764 thousand. In the same period, commercial installment loans increased by 1.27% to ₺1 trillion 262 billion 379 million 688 thousand, and credit card balances increased by 4.92% to ₺1 trillion 532 billion 989 million 602 thousand.

Of the consumer loans in deposit banks, ₺359 billion 671 million 999 thousand consisted of housing, ₺73 billion 316 million 990 thousand from vehicle loans and ₺958 billion 602 million 775 thousand from other loans.

The total credit volume of the banking sector, including the CBRT, increased by ₺141 billion 405 million 551 thousand in the week ending December 29, reaching ₺11 trillion 189 billion 475 million 577 thousand. Total loan volume increased by 53.59% compared to the same period last year.
