Top Tourist Arrivals in Turkiye from Neighboring Countries: Iran, Russia, Bulgaria

While 4 million 341 thousand people visited Turkiye in the first two months of this year, the most tourists came from Iran, Russia and Bulgaria.

According to data compiled from the tourism statistics of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on the occasion of Tourism Week, the number of foreign visitors coming to Turkiye in 2023 was 56 million 693 thousand 837. 49 million 209 thousand 180 of these visitors were foreigners, and 7 million 484 thousand 657 were “citizens residing abroad”.

According to border-entry-exit statistics, Turkiye hosted 2 million 47 thousand 27 foreign visitors in January 2024 and 2 million 294 thousand 579 in February. In the same period last year, 3 million 876 thousand 381 foreign visitors entered Turkiye.

According to these data, the number of foreigners visiting Turkiye in the January-February period of this year increased by 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 4 million 341 thousand 606.

In 2023 and the first 2 months of 2024, the total number of tourists visiting Turkiye was determined as 61 million 35 thousand 443.

Iran Tops Tourist Arrivals to Turkiye in First Two Months of the Year

The country that sent the most visitors to Turkiye in January and February was Iran with 437 thousand 905 people. Iran was followed by Russia with 433 thousand 654 people and Bulgaria with 345 thousand 301 people. Bulgaria was followed by Germany and Georgia respectively.

Istanbul ranked first among the cities where visitors to Turkiye entered the country. Istanbul was followed by Edirne, Antalya, Artvin and Ağrı respectively.

Tourism Revenues Increased

While there was a decrease in tourism revenue in Turkiye due to epidemic conditions, the tourism sector began to recover after 2021.

While tourism revenue in 2022 will be $46 billion 477 million 871 thousand, last year this figure reached $54 billion 315 million 542 thousand. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy also noted that 2023 will be a record year in tourism with its tourism revenue.
