A revenue of $1 billion 280 million 888 thousand was obtained from 291 million 373 thousand square meters of carpets exported from Turkiye in the first half of the year.
According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Southeastern Anatolian Exporters’ Association (GAHIB), carpet exporters who made new investments and continued their search for markets sent their products to 185 countries in the January-June period.
Turkish carpet manufacturers earned $1 billion 280 million 888 thousand of export income in return for 291 million 373 thousand square meters of carpets that they delivered to all over the world in the first half of the year. In the same period of last year, carpet manufacturers had an export of $1 billion 353 million 865 thousand.
In the first half of the year, carpet makers exported $1 billion 30 million 323 thousand of machine carpets, $215 million 187 thousand of tufted carpets, $31 million 98 thousand of hand-made rugs and $4 million 280 million of rugs.
The Turkish carpet manufacturers, who send the most products to the USA, the Middle East and Europe, respectively, received the highest amount of foreign currency from the USA with $355 million 319 thousand, from Saudi Arabia with $154 million 529 thousand and from the UK with $82 million 694 thousand.
Gaziantep made the biggest export in Turkiye with $856 million 30 thousand. Gaziantep was followed by Istanbul with $323 million 379 thousand and Usak with $33 million 163 thousand. Thus, Gaziantep’s share in Turkiye’s carpet exports was 68.2%.
The exports of Turkish carpet makers in the last 12 months amounted to $2 billion 680 million 462 thousand.
GAHIB President Zeynal Abidin Kaplan stated to the AA correspondent that Turkiye has made significant exports in the carpet industry.
Noting that they are carrying out the necessary work to increase exports, Kaplan said:
“Our manufacturers send their products all over the world. Our industry provides an important income to our country and provides employment with it. Our exports in the first half of the year reached $1.2 billion and we export to 185 countries. We continue our studies and projects to strengthen our industry and make our strong trade in the markets sustainable. Turkiye has shown itself in the world in machine carpet production. We always take place in the first place. We aim to continue this success.”
