$12 billion worth of grain and pulses were exported in Turkiye in 2023

Turkish grains, pulses, oilseeds and products sector made exports of $12 billion 380 million 538 thousand in 2023.

According to information compiled from Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Associations (GAIB) data, the grains, pulses, oilseeds and products sector sold 14 million 673 thousand 959 tons of products to 213 countries and free zones in 2023.

The exports of the sector, which earned $12 billion 380 million 538 thousand in return for the products it sent, increased by 36% in quantity and 8% in value compared to the previous year.

The sector made the most exports to Middle Eastern countries with $4 billion 617 million 524 thousand. The Middle East was followed by Africa with $2 billion 787 million 329 thousand and Europe with $1 billion 630 million 585 thousand.

Iraq ranks first in sector exports

In the sector’s country-based exports, Iraq ranked first with $2 billion 123 million 367 thousand, while the USA was second with $680 million 769 thousand and Iran was third with $463 million 143 thousand.

The exporters’ union that made the most foreign sales was GAIB with $3 billion 796 million 891 thousand. GAIB was followed by Istanbul Exporters’ Associations with $3 billion 332 million 455 thousand and Mediterranean Exporters’ Associations with $2 billion 103 million 685 thousand.

Ahmet Tiryakioglu, Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Sector Board, said that their sector had a good year.

Stating that their exports are increasing day by day, Tiryakioglu said:

“Our exports increased in 2023 and this increase will continue in the coming years. Our industry generated $12 billion 380 million 538 thousand of export income in 2023, and we believe that this income will take our industry even further. Because our export earnings also create capital for sector investments. Our sector has shown itself in the world and the products of the sector are in demand in the world. We send products to almost every country in the world, you can easily see and taste our products in many parts of the world. As a sector, we have full confidence that we will increase our exports this year as well.”
