Exports of the automotive industry to EU countries increased by 22%

Turkiye’s automotive industry made sales of $17 billion 569 million 399 thousand to European Union (EU) countries in 9 months.

The automotive industry exported $25 billion 619 million 838 thousand in the 9 months of the year, with an increase of 15% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The automotive sector, which exports to more than 190 countries, autonomous and free zones, received a 15.7% share of Turkiye’s exports in the January-September period of this year.

68.6% of automotive exports are to EU countries

In the January-September period of this year, 68.6% of Turkiye’s automotive exports were made to EU countries.

During the said period, exports to EU countries increased by 22% compared to the same period last year, reaching $17 billion 569 million 399 thousand. EU countries maintained their position as the most important market in automotive exports.

In the January-September period, $2 billion 833 million 579 thousand of exports were made to the “other European countries” group, $1 billion 405 million 807 thousand to the Commonwealth of Independent States, and $1 billion 56 million 332 thousand to the Middle Eastern countries, and $1 billion 42 million 810 thousand of exports were made to African countries.

$3.6 billion worth of exports to main market Germany

Germany, the main market of the Turkish automotive industry, became the country with the most automotive exports, with an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year.

The automotive exports of the country in question, which was $3 billion 230 million 926 thousand in the January-September period last year, increased to $3 billion 606 million 472 thousand in the same period this year.

Germany was followed by France, the second main market, with an increase of 47%. In the three quarters of 2022, $2 billion 196 million 447 thousand of automotive exports were made to France, and $3 billion 234 million 434 thousand of exports were made in the same period of this year.

The United Kingdom, which left the EU, ranked 3rd with automotive exports of $2 billion 390 million 682 thousand.

Automotive exports were made to Italy, which ranked fourth, with $2 billion 246 million 819 thousand, with an increase of 27%, and to Spain, which ranked fifth, with $1 billion 771 million 602 thousand, with an increase of 28%.

Poland ranked sixth in the list of the countries with the most exports in the January-September period, with a 22% increase and $1 billion 299 million 320 thousand compared to the same periods last year. Slovenia ranked seventh with a 25% increase and $1 billion 25 million 120 thousand, and Belgium ranked eighth with $1 billion 1 million 327 thousand.
