Exports Surge in 57 Turkish Provinces During First Quarter of the Year

The Ministry of Commerce reported that 14 provinces exported over $1 billion in the January-March period, and exports increased in 57 provinces.

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was noted that the Turkish economy has shown uninterrupted growth for the last 14 quarters, and that exports increased by 3.6% in the first quarter of this year, reaching $63.7 billion.

In the statement, it was stated that 14 provinces exported over $1 billion in the January-March period and exports increased in 57 provinces, and that the export increases in the provinces contributed to local development by strengthening production, investment and employment capacity.

In the statement, it was emphasized that the developments regarding foreign trade observed in the first quarter of the year showed that net exports made a positive contribution to growth and said, “As the Ministry of Commerce, we continue our work with determination to increase exports with our policies and strategies aimed at market and product diversification in the perspective of high value-added and competitive exports. On the other hand, we aim to expand exports strongly throughout our country. A more prosperous Turkiye is aimed as a result of the increase in production and employment provided locally.”

The highest export increase was in Corum

Within the scope of “export data by provinces of activity”, which has started to be published since the beginning of this year, the statement touched upon the annual export developments of some provinces in March and gave the following information:

“Istanbul ranked first with a 23% decrease and $4 billion 410 million, Kocaeli ranked second with a 5.6% increase and $3 billion 40 million, and Izmir ranked third with a 1.5% decrease and $2 billion 255 million, Bursa ranked fourth with a 0.3% decrease and $1 billion 636 million in exports, and Ankara ranked fifth with a 1% increase and $1 billion 25 million. In March, Corum was the province with the highest increase in exports with $187 million compared to the same month of the previous year. Kocaeli ranked second with $160 million, Mersin ranked third with $121 million, Yalova ranked fourth with $99 million, and Afyonkarahisar ranked fifth with $49 million.”
