Foreign trade volume with Turkish lira exceeded ₺287 billion

In the first 5 months of the year, the foreign trade volume realized in Turkish lira reached ₺287 billion 59 million with an increase of 138.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the data of the Ministry of Commerce, Turkiye’s exports increased by 14.4% in May to $21.7 billion. This was recorded as the highest May export value of all time.

Imports, on the other hand, increased by 16% to $34 billion 312 million. Last month, the foreign trade volume increased by 15.3% to $55 billion 963 million.

Exports were calculated as $102 billion 521 million with an increase of 0.2% in the January-May period compared to the same period of the previous year, while imports were calculated as $158 billion 625 million with an increase of 8.9%. In the said period, foreign trade volume increased by 5.3% and reached $261 billion 146 million.

Foreign trade with the Turkish lira also followed a course parallel to the developments in Turkiye’s foreign trade volume.

Accordingly, while exports in Turkish lira were ₺14 billion 749 million, imports were ₺30 billion 739 million, foreign trade volume increased to ₺45 billion 488 million.

The effect of the earthquake was felt

Turkiye’s exports in February fell to $ 18.6 billion with a decrease of 6.4% compared to the same month of the previous year due to the effect of earthquakes in Kahramanmaras. In the same month, exports in Turkish lira decreased to ₺13 billion 869 million. Imports in Turkish lira were recorded as ₺40 billion 364 million and foreign trade volume as ₺54 billion 233 million in this period.

The recovery in exports in March was also reflected in exports in Turkish lira.

In March, the said export amounted to ₺18 billion 50 million. In this period, while the amount of imports in Turkish lira was ₺45 billion 75 million, the foreign trade volume increased to ₺63 billion 805 million.

While the negative impact of the Kahramanmaras-centered earthquakes on foreign sales continued in April, exports amounted to $19.3 billion with a decrease of 17.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. In this context, in the month in question, exports decreased to ₺14 billion 623 million, imports to ₺43 billion 122 million, and foreign trade volume to ₺57 billion 745 million in Turkish lira.

Foreign trade with Turkish lira recovered in May

Exports in Turkish lira increased by 120% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached ₺16 billion 366 million in May. In this period, while the amount of imports in Turkish lira was ₺49 billion 422 million, the foreign trade volume reached ₺65 billion 788 million.

Exports in Turkish lira increased by 90.6% in the January-May period compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching ₺77 billion 658 million. In this period, imports in Turkish lira were recorded as ₺209 billion 401 million.

In the first 5 months of the year, the foreign trade volume with Turkish lira was calculated as ₺287 billion 59 million, an increase of 138.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.

On the other hand, the number of countries exporting with Turkish lira was 165 and the number of companies exporting with Turkish lira was 8,440 in May.
