Global crude steel production fell in July

Global crude steel production fell 6.5% year on year to 149.3 million tons in July, driven by a more than 6% drop in production in China.

The World Steel Association (Worldsteel), headquartered in Brussels, announced crude steel production data for July of this year. Accordingly, global crude steel production decreased by 6.5% in July compared to the same period of 2021, to 149.3 million tons. In the said period, China’s production decreased by 6.4% to 81.4 million tons.

In the same period, steel production decreased by 8.5% to 7.4 million tons in Japan, to 3 million tons with a decrease of 2% in Germany, and to 7 million tons in the USA with a decrease of 6.4%.

Turkiye’s crude steel production, on the other hand, decreased by 20.7% in July compared to the same period of the previous year, to 2.7 million tons. In the said period, it is estimated that steel production decreased by 8.7% to 2.7 million tons in Brazil, and increased by 34.1% to 2 million tons in Iran.

On the other hand, global crude steel production decreased by 5.4% in the January-July period compared to the same period of the previous year and fell to 1 billion 102 million tons.
