Honor plans to use large language models on smartphones

Honor, the Chinese device manufacturer, is exploring the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) large language models (LLM) into its smartphones, aiming to advance human-centric technology. At the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2023, Zhao Ming, CEO of Honor Device Co Ltd, emphasized that smartphones have become the epitome of computing systems, communication technologies,display technologies, and AI platforms, effectively merging diverse devices and technologies.

Enhancing User Experiences with Large Language Models

Zhao highlighted that the rapid progress in AI and communication technologies has sparked a new era of smartphone innovation, opening up countless possibilities for exploration. Honor sees it as their responsibility to embrace these opportunities and continually push the boundaries of smartphone capabilities. To that end, the company is actively applying AI across various usage scenarios and investigating the potential of integrating large language models directly into devices.

Taking note of the evolution from 1G to 5G over the past five decades and the consequent breakdown of barriers between the physical and digital realms, Zhao emphasized Honor’s commitment to optimizing information communication capabilities to provide a seamless user experience. He also announced that the company will soon hold a launch event in Beijing for its upcoming flagship foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V2.
