The new airport terminal is expected to cost $4.34 billion
Kuwait has awarded a $764.87 million contract to Türkiye’s Limak to build a portion of a new terminal at Kuwait airport, the country’s official gazette published on Sunday.
Limak will construct aircraft parking aprons, taxiways and service buildings, the Gazette said.
The new airport terminal is expected to cost $4.34 billion. It will triple the capacity of Kuwait’s airport to 25 million passengers per year.
Earlier this year, the Turkish Limak Holding and its Kuwaiti partner, Al-Kharafi International, laid the foundation stone for the said terminal project. It was the largest tender won abroad in a single package by Turkish contractors.
This new terminal was originally scheduled to be completed within six years,but Limak chairman Nihat Özdemir said it may be done within four years.
The terminal project is part of an $8.2 billion strategic development plan for the Kuwaiti airport. It will include a new runway, a control tower, and a smaller passenger terminal.
Turkish firms have been involved in projects worth a total of $6.5 billion in Kuwait.
Negotiations between Türkiye and the six countries of the GCC are underway for a free trade agreement.
