Minister Isikhan: Turkiye’s Economy Set to Lead EU with 4.5% Growth in 2023

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Isikhan said, “In 2023, the unemployment rate decreased by 1 point to 9.4%. The total unemployment rate and youth unemployment rate reached the lowest level of the last 10 years.”

Isikhan met with representatives of non-governmental organizations in the city in the conference hall of a hotel in Nevsehir.

Stating that they prioritize consultation, communication and dialogue on every issue they take initiative on, from working life to social security, Isikhan emphasized that they will continue to work with the spirit of unity and solidarity to move Turkiye to the position it deserves in business life and globally.

Emphasizing that positive data have been obtained in the economy and working life recently, Isikhan said:

“In 2023, the unemployment rate decreased by 1 point to 9.4%. The total unemployment rate and youth unemployment rate reached the lowest level in the last 10 years. The number of unemployed people decreased by 318 thousand people in 2023 compared to the previous year. Both women’s and youth’s total employment rate and labor force participation rate increased to the highest level in the last 22 years. When we look specifically at last year, the total number of employed people in 2023 increased by 880 thousand people and reached 31 million 632 thousand. New employment for 12 million 275 thousand people was created in the Turkish economy compared to 2005. The positive momentum in decreasing the unemployment rate over the years continued in 2023, and our employment rate increased by 0.8 points compared to the previous year, reaching 48.3%. From 2005 to 2023, the employment rate increased by 8.3 points.”

Isikhan stated that the Turkish economy will be the fastest growing country among the EU countries with a growth of 4.5% in 2023. He said that national income in dollar terms exceeded $1 trillion for the first time in Turkiye’s history, and national income per capita reached the highest level in history with $13 thousand 110.

Stating that he hopes that all cities, especially Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, will have real municipalism after the elections to be held on March 31, Isikhan asked for support for AK Party Nevsehir Mayor candidate Mehmet Savran.

The meeting continued closed to the press after Minister Isikhan’s speech.

AK Party Nevsehir Deputy Suleyman Ozgun, AK Party Provincial Chairman Ali Kemikkıran and representatives of non-governmental organizations attended the meeting.
