New Era for Credit Cards in Turkiye: Contactless Payment Limit Doubled

BDDK Raises Contactless Payment Limit to ₺1,500

A significant change in credit card usage takes effect today as the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) has announced a 100% increase in the contactless payment limit. Starting now, the limit for contactless payments has been raised from ₺750 to ₺1,500, impacting millions of credit and debit cardholders.

In April, the BDDK issued a directive to banks, stating that the limit for contactless transactions without a PIN should be increased to ₺1,500. This decision has officially come into effect today, July 1, 2024.

Contactless payment methods, which allow transactions through cards and mobile devices without any physical contact, have been updated for the first time in two years. The previous limit was set during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when contactless payments gained popularity due to hygiene concerns and the need for safer payment methods.

With this new limit, consumers can now make contactless payments of up to ₺1,500 without requiring a PIN, reflecting the growing demand for convenient and secure payment solutions.
