Sakarya closed the first half of the year with approximately $2.8 billion in exports

Sakarya, which has an important place in Turkiye’s automotive exports, achieved $2.8 billion in foreign sales in the first half of the year.

According to the compilation made by the AA correspondent from the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Sakarya, which ranks seventh in exports after Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Izmir, Ankara and Gaziantep, continued its rise in production and foreign sales.

Increasing its exports by 4.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, Sakarya strengthened the economy with its automotive, iron and non-ferrous metals, machinery and accessories, air conditioning industry, chemicals and products, steel, electricity and electronics sectors.

In the first half of the year, Sakarya realized foreign sales of $2 billion 760 million 473 thousand to 145 countries and 10 free zones. In the city, which contributed 2.5% to the country’s exports in the said period, the highest sales were experienced in the automotive sector with 88%.

The city, which hosts production facilities such as Toyota, TurkTraktor and Otokar, made $2 billion 429 million 5 thousand of automotive exports in 6 months.

In foreign sales, ferrous and non-ferrous metals came in second with $54 million 418 thousand, and chemical materials and products came in third with $45 million 964 thousand. These sectors were followed by machinery and accessories with $44 million 756 thousand, air conditioning industry with $38 million 566 thousand, steel with $29 million 899 thousand, and electricity and electronics with $26 million 225 thousand.

Among these, the sector that increased its exports the most in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, was machinery and its components with 36.2%.

Most exports to Spain

In the January-June period, the highest export from the city was made to Spain with $346 million 989 thousand. Exports to this country increased by 37.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The second country to which Sakarya exports the most was Poland with $335 million 898 thousand. Poland was followed by France with $322 million 127 thousand, the United Kingdom with $298 million 353 thousand and Germany with $220 million 373 thousand.
