The 11th Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals decided to continue the service of Uber in Turkiye. Between 2014 and 2019, Uber provided mediation services to its users in Turkiye with two different products, UberXL (black minivans) and UberTaxi. Due to the regulations regarding the transportation service in 2019, UberXL has ended its service.

Istanbul 10th Commercial Court of First Instance (court of first instance) decided to suspend these two services of Uber on 16.10.2019. Upon Uber’s appeal against this decision, the Istanbul 13th District Court of Appeals partially accepted Uber’s appeal requests on 11.12.2020 and lifted the access barrier applied to Uber in Turkiye and decided to open the taxi service for use.

With its decision on 23.01.2023, the Supreme Court upheld this decision in favor of Uber. This decision, which is extremely positive for Uber, does not impede the Uber app or the Uber Taxi service.

Thus, the Supreme Court made the final decision for the continuation of Uber’s taxi service in Turkiye.

Uber started its operations in Turkiye in 2014 and in a short time, it was welcomed with great interest by both Istanbulites and tourists.
