Developed within the Turkish defense industry, the CANiK M2 QCB heavy machine gun is expected to contribute $200 million annually to Turkiye.
Operating within the body of Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS), one of the important establishments of the Turkish defense industry, CANiK brings the most advanced technology products to the youth at TEKNOFEST BLACK SEA.
The CANiK M2 QCB heavy machine gun, developed with domestic and national resources within the scope of the “Platform Machine Gun Project” signed with the Presidency of Defense Industries, is among the most popular products at TEKNOFEST BLACK SEA.
SYS General Manager Utku Aral said that the weapon system can be integrated into air, land and sea vehicles.
Stating that the developed weapon system is the main attack weapon of vehicles such as the Altay tank, Kirpi, Ejder and Cobra, Aral said, “As Turkiye, we were externally dependent on this weapon system while producing these platforms. We became the fifth company in the world to produce this weapon, which is under the control of only four American companies, in NATO standards.”
Stating that the construction of the weapon system was completed at the beginning of 2022 and it passed all tests successfully, Aral continued as follows:
“We completed the entire qualification process and delivered our deliveries in a short period of 40 days without any test repetitions. Today, many institutions such as the gendarmerie, the coast guard, and our police force have taken these weapons into their inventory. We delivered to many platform manufacturers and they also exported. We didn’t just build this gun, we maximized its performance. We have increased the barrel life from 15 to 25 years. We’ve improved shooting performance and durability.”
TURKIYE IS GETTING FREED FROM FOREIGN DEPENDENCE
Noting that Turkiye transfers $100 million annually to abroad while procuring this weapon system, Aral said, “As we keep the $100 million we transferred abroad, we also have an export of $100 million, which is our target. Therefore, we have gained almost $200 million annually from here. “
Stating that they have also developed the CANiK M2F, a higher and faster version of this weapon, which makes 550 rounds per minute, Aral said:
“Today, we have developed a gun with a rate of 950 rounds per minute, which is produced by three companies in the world. We have developed a pod to connect it to the aircraft of companies that produce air platforms such as TUSAS and Bayrak. We have also created the infrastructure that can connect the pod with a capacity of 450 rounds to either our Hurkus aircraft or other helicopters. In this way, we have added this product, which was not in the product portfolio before and which was missing in the market, to the system. This will indirectly increase our country’s exports.”
Stating that the system also attracted attention from abroad, Aral stated that they cooperated and exported with many countries such as Azerbaijan, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.
