Turkiye’s international flight destinations, which were 60 in 50 countries in 2003, reached 343 destinations in 130 countries this year. The domestic flight network reached 57 points from 26 points in the same period.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure State Airports Authority Airline Sector Report and the General Directorate of Civil Aviation Activity Report, effective studies have been carried out within the framework of aviation policy since 2002 in Turkiye, which has the potential to become the transit center of the world, to utilize this advantage.
Thanks to the investments made in aviation and the regulations in this field, Turkiye showed a growth performance above the world average.
Turkiye has assumed a leading role in Eurasia with effective, active and planned investments in aviation policy for 20 years for the development of Turkish civil aviation with the slogan “Life begins when you reach it”.
The number of international flight destinations increased to 343
As a result of agreements and negotiations, the number of international flight destinations, which was 60 in 50 countries in 2003, increased by 472% to 343 destinations in 130 countries as of this year. Thus, Turkish civil aviation turned into the country with the largest flight network in the world.
Investments increased capacity in the aviation sector
The number of bilateral negotiations in Turkish aviation, which was 7 in 2003, increased to 11 by the end of 2022, and the number of countries with air transportation agreements increased from 81 to 173.
While the number of destinations flown on domestic routes was also supported by cross flights, Turkiye’s airspace was knitted with an airline network. During this period, the number of airports was increased from 26 to 57.
With the investments, there were great increases in the capacity in the aviation sector. There are 12 airline companies in the Turkish civil aviation sector that transport passengers and cargo. The number of aircraft in airline companies, which was 162 in 2003, increased by 269% to 598 by the end of 2022.
Seat capacity increased by 310% from 27 thousand 599 to 113 thousand 54 in the same period, and cargo capacity increased by 783% from 303 tons to 2 thousand 675 tons.
The number of passengers traveling by air exceeded 182 million
The total number of passengers on the airline, which was 34 million 443 thousand 655 in 2003, reached 182 million 333 thousand 844 at the end of last year.
Passenger traffic on domestic lines, which was 9 million 147 thousand 439, increased to 78 million 670 thousand 30 as of the end of last year. On international lines, passenger traffic, which was 25 million 296 thousand 216 in 2003, increased to 103 million 277 thousand 976 in 2022. By the end of 2022, the total number of passengers exceeded 182.3 million. As of the end of August this year, 143 million 359 thousand 903 people traveled by air.
While total aircraft traffic was 529 thousand 205 in 2003, it reached 1 million 883 thousand 186 at the end of last year. In the same period, domestic aircraft traffic increased from 156 thousand 582 to 789 thousand 257, and international aircraft traffic increased from 218 thousand 405 to 699 thousand 40.
In the 8 months of this year, total aircraft traffic was 905 thousand 164. 389 thousand 942 of these were on domestic lines and 515 thousand 921 were on international lines.
