The first half record in the agriculture sector: $16 billion 627 million export

The agricultural sector achieved the highest first half exports of all time with $16 billion 627 million. In January-June 2023, exports of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and their products were $5 billion 510 million, fresh fruits and vegetables $1 billion 697 million, olives and olive oil $559 million 881 thousand.

The agricultural sector continues to break records in exports. Demand for Turkiye’s agricultural products continues to increase in an environment where geopolitical risks, concerns about supply dominate, and problems regarding access to food on a global scale continue.

Economic policies that prioritize production and exports also contribute to Turkiye’s agricultural exports.

According to the information compiled from the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s agricultural sector achieved the highest first half exports of all time with $16 billion 627 million.

Agricultural exports, which increased by 1.4% in the first 6 months of the year compared to the same period of 2022, took a 15.4% share from Turkiye’s total export sales.

3 out of 10 industries broke records

3 out of 10 sectors operating in agriculture broke export records in the first half. In the said period, the cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products, fresh fruit and vegetables, olives and olive oil sectors made the highest January-June exports of all time.

During this period, exports of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and their products reached $5 billion 510 million, fresh fruits and vegetables $1 billion 697 million, olives and olive oil $559 million 881 thousand.

In January-June 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, exports of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products increased by 2.1%, fresh fruits and vegetables by 16.6%, and olives and olive oil increased by 190.7%.

Exports of olive and olive oil sector to Spain exceeded $200 million

In terms of countries, in the first half, exports of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products to Iraq amounted to $966 million 207 thousand, fresh fruit and vegetable sector to Russia $498 million 393 thousand, olive and olive oil sector $203 million 967 thousand to Spain.

While the export of grains, pulses, oil seeds and their products to Iraq decreased by $95 million 933 thousand, fresh fruit and vegetable sector recorded an increase in exports to Russia by $43 million 877 thousand, and the olive and olive oil sector to Spain $196 million 320 thousand.

Mersin’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports exceeded $400 million

On the basis of provinces, $1 billion 728 million of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and their products were exported from Istanbul, $420 million 715 thousand of fresh fruits and vegetables were exported from Mersin, and $250 million 678 thousand of olives and olive oil were exported from Izmir.
