There was a 19% increase in the number of passengers at the airports in Istanbul, where a total of 113 million 266 thousand 985 people traveled last year, compared to the previous year.
Passenger traffic, which decreased significantly around the world and in Turkiye during the COVID-19 epidemic, started to increase as of the beginning of 2022. The rise that started the previous year continued in 2023.
According to the information compiled from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI), 76 million 236 thousand 980 passengers traveled from Istanbul Airport last year, 18 million 22 thousand 61 on domestic lines and 58 million 214 thousand 919 on international lines.
A passenger increase of 18% was calculated last year at the airport, which will be used by a total of 64 million 518 thousand 73 passengers in 2022.
Last year, a total of 37 million 30 thousand 5 passengers arrived and departed from Sabiha Gokcen Airport, including 17 million 661 thousand 416 on domestic lines and 19 million 368 thousand 589 on international lines, and a total of 30 million 737 thousand 854 people were hosted in the previous year. A 20 percent passenger increase was calculated at the airport last year compared to 2022.
A total of 113 million 266 thousand 985 people traveled from Istanbul airports in 2023, 35 million 683 thousand 477 of which were on domestic lines and 77 million 583 thousand 508 on international lines.
In 2023, 18 million 11 thousand 58 more passengers were added to the number of passengers flying from Istanbul, which was 95 million 255 thousand 927 in the previous year. It was calculated that the number of passengers increased by 19%.
The number of flights also increased
Last year, arrival and departure flights from Istanbul airports increased along with the number of passengers.
It was recorded that a total of 506 thousand 55 flights were organized at Istanbul Airport in 2023, including 126 thousand 343 flights on domestic lines and 379 thousand 712 flights on international lines.
At the airport, where a total of 425 thousand 852 flights were made last year, 80 thousand 203 flights and a 19% increase were calculated in 2023.
Last year, a total of 227 thousand 234 flights were operated at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, 107 thousand 292 of which were domestic and 119 thousand 942 were international flights.
The number of flights from the airport, where a total of 200 thousand 233 flights were organized last year, increased by 13% in 2023.
At Atatürk Airport, in 2023, 15 thousand 281 flights were made on domestic lines, 9 thousand 923 flights were made on international lines, and a total of 25 thousand 204 flights were made.
It was reflected in the statistics that 758 thousand 493 flights were operated from Istanbul airports in 2023 and 654 thousand 357 flights in 2022.
It was determined that the number of flights last year increased by 16% compared to 2022.
