The share of solar energy in Turkiye’s electricity power has exceeded 9%

As of the end of March, Turkiye’s solar power consists of power plants with a capacity approaching 10 thousand megawatts spread over 78 cities, while there are solar power plants with a capacity of over 100 megawatts in 35 provinces.

As of the end of March, Turkiye’s installed electricity capacity reached 104,348 megawatts, and solar energy installed power reached 9,820 megawatts.

The installed power in solar energy, which was 40 megawatts in 2014, continued to grow by approaching 10 thousand megawatts in about 10 years. The share of solar energy in Turkiye’s electricity installed power reached 9.41%.

While the installed power of solar energy, mainly composed of unlicensed power plants, stands out with its “distributed” structure, there are solar power plants of different scales in 78 provinces of Turkiye.

“Konya” is the capital of the sun

Konya stands out as the city with the highest installed capacity in solar energy with 1722.2 megawatts.

Konya is followed by Ankara with 520.5 megawatts, Gaziantep with 435.1 megawatts, Sanliurfa with 414 megawatts, Kayseri with 392.4 megawatts and Izmir with 338.8 megawatts.

Kahramanmaras is among the top 10 cities with the highest installed capacity in solar energy with 286 megawatts, Afyonkarahisar with 264.2 megawatts, Antalya with 262.2 megawatts and Manisa with 259.8 megawatts.

Turkiye’s 35 provinces have a solar energy capacity of 100 megawatts and above, and 23 cities have a solar energy capacity of 10-100 megawatts. There are no solar power plants in Rize, Hakkari and Artvin.

On the other hand, according to the Turkiye Solar Energy Potential Atlas prepared by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the average annual total radiation value is calculated as 1527.46 kilowatt-hours per square meter in Turkiye, where the average annual total sunshine duration is 2 thousand 741 hours.

Turkiye is considered to have a high solar energy potential due to its geographical location.
