Assets of the Turkish banking sector reached ₺23.5 trillion in the December 2023 period

The asset size of the Turkish banking sector increased by 63.9% in the December 2023 period compared to the end of 2022, reaching ₺23 trillion 519 billion.

The “Unconsolidated Main Indicators of the Turkish Banking Sector” report for the period of December 2023 was published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA).

According to the report, the asset size of the banking sector in December was ₺23 trillion 519 billion 337 million. While the total assets of the sector increased by ₺9 trillion 171 billion 947 million compared to the end of 2022, the proportional equivalent of this was 63.9%.

Loans, the largest asset item of the sector, increased by 54% compared to the end of 2022, reaching ₺11 trillion 677 billion 135 million, and the total securities increased by 67.4%, reaching ₺3 trillion 969 billion 830 million. During this period, the conversion rate of loans to non-performing loans was 1.6%.

Deposits, which are the largest source of funds among banks’ resources, increased by 67.6% compared to the end of 2022, reaching ₺14 trillion 851 billion 970 million.

In the same period, the total equity capital increased by 50.9% and reached ₺2 trillion 121 billion 581 million.

In the December 2023 period, the sector’s net profit for the period was ₺603 billion 634 million and the capital adequacy standard ratio was 18.85%.
