Banking Sector’s Deposits Decrease by ₺172 Billion, Totaling ₺16.1492 Trillion as of May 3

Total deposits of the banking sector decreased by approximately ₺172 billion in the week ending May 3 compared to the previous week, falling to ₺16 trillion 149.2 billion.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkiye (CBRT) announced weekly money and bank statistics.

Accordingly, the total deposits of the banking sector (including interbank) decreased by ₺171 billion 984 million 126 thousand in the week ending May 3, decreasing to ₺16 trillion 149 billion 218 million 258 thousand.

In the same period, TL deposits in banks decreased by 0.87% to ₺9 trillion 3 billion 578 million 380 thousand, and foreign currency (FX) deposits decreased by 2.13% to ₺6 trillion 369 billion 217 million 795 thousand.

While total FX deposits in banks amounted to $207 billion 812 million last week, $175 billion 815 million of this amount was collected in the accounts of domestic residents.

Considering the data adjusted for parity effect, there was a decrease of $2 billion 986 million in the total FX deposits of domestic residents as of May 3.

Installment commercial loan amount increased

Consumer loans in deposit banks increased by 0.53% last week and reached ₺1 trillion 559 billion 269 million 73 thousand. In the same period, commercial installment loans increased by 0.16% to ₺1 trillion 477 billion 630 million 30 thousand, and credit card balances increased by 1.55% to ₺1 trillion 857 billion 864 million 846 thousand.

Of the consumer loans in deposit banks, ₺401 billion 372 million 844 thousand were housing loans, ₺68 billion 517 million 858 thousand were vehicle loans and ₺1 trillion 89 billion 378 million 371 thousand were other loans.

The total credit volume of the banking sector, including the CBRT, increased by ₺38 billion 184 million 463 thousand in the week ending May 3, reaching ₺12 trillion 681 billion 194 million 719 thousand. Total loan volume increased by 46.56% compared to the same period last year.
