Demand for domestic card TROY is increasing rapidly

Interest in TROY, a domestic card whose technology was developed in Turkiye, has gained momentum recently.

In 2015, banks came together under the leadership of the Interbank Card Center (BKM) and established the local card scheme TROY. Turkiye’s Payment Method TROY went into operation in 2016.

TROY efforts were accelerated after the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkiye (CBRT) became a controlling shareholder of BKM in 2020. With the dissemination strategy put into effect this year, TROY grew rapidly in both usage and number of cards.

There are approximately 19 million cards with the TROY logo. TROY supports the most up-to-date technologies in the field of card systems.

As of October 2023, TROY has 55 members as a bank and electronic money institution, and cards with the TROY logo can be used in all ATM, POS and e-commerce transactions domestically. With TROY cards, you can make installments at workplaces that banks have agreements with, earn points and benefit from the loyalty programs implemented by banks.

TROY card, which can be used abroad and in places where the logos of international card schemes on the back of the card are valid, can be obtained by applying to banks and electronic money institutions.

A total of ₺239.2 billion transactions have been made with TROY cards since the beginning of 2023

While the shopping volume with TROY logo cards increased approximately 14 times in October compared to January this year, reaching ₺48 billion, a total of ₺239.2 billion of transactions have been made with TROY cards since the beginning of 2023.

Demand for cards with TROY logo is expected to increase further

The use of the domestic card TROY, whose technology was developed in Turkiye, tripled compared to June.

Banking officials stated that the demand for TROY cards in banks has accelerated in recent weeks and that the demand for cards with the TROY logo, both for new cards and card replacements, is expected to increase in the coming days.

Atilla Sendur, a TROY card user, stated that he has been using the TROY card for about the last year and that he is satisfied, and said, “I chose the TROY card because it is local and national, and I recommend it to my circle.”

Goktug Samet Agca, another TROY card user and business owner, stated that his bank offers TROY cards with different brands and that he prefers TROY, which is domestically produced, and said that he wants his country to win rather than other countries to win.
