Turkish Salmon Exports from the Eastern Black Sea Surge by 59% in January

The Turkish salmon exports from the Eastern Black Sea in January witnessed an annual increase of 59%, reaching $11,240,719, according to Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association.

Gürdoğan informed AA News Agency that 2,251 tons of Turkish salmon were exported from the region to 10 countries. The revenue generated from this export amounted to $11,240,719. He emphasized that the quantity increased by 146%, and the value surged by 59%, compared to the same period last year, yielding $7,077,917 for 914 tons.

“The first month of the year saw Turkish salmon exports from our region to 10 countries. Leading among these countries were the Russian Federation, Vietnam, and Japan. Russia received $6,859,369, Vietnam $2,706,033, and Japan $1,266,514 worth of salmon,” said Gürdoğan.

Gürdoğan also highlighted that salmon was sold from the Eastern Black Sea region to Canada, the People’s Republic of China, Belarus, Germany, Georgia, France, and Thailand. He added, “67% of the Eastern Black Sea exports were carried out from Trabzon. In January, 1,467 tons of salmon were exported from the city to 7 countries, generating a revenue of $7,559,388.”

Comparing this to last year’s figures, Gürdoğan mentioned that Trabzon exported 667 tons of salmon, earning $5,260,000 in January. According to him, this reflects a 120% increase in quantity and a 44% increase in value.

Gürdoğan expressed optimism about the positive start to the year for Turkish salmon exports and believed that the increase in both export volume and country diversification would continue in the coming days.
