Turkish textile industry aims to increase its share from the USA

Uludag Textile Exporters Association (UTIB) members, who attended the “LA Textile Show September 2023” fair held in the USA, established connections to increase foreign sales to this country.

According to the statement made by the association, UTIB participated in the fair held in Los Angeles on 27-29 September with 13 textile companies.

Aiming to raise awareness of the sector, draw attention to Turkish products and conduct buyer studies at the fair with the Trend Area organization, UTIB exhibited a special design at its stand with examples of fabric and sustainable textile products reflecting the latest trends.

UTIB President Pinar Tasdelen Engin, whose evaluations about the fair and the sector were included in the statement, stated that they exported textiles to 199 countries and regions last year and reached a kilogram export value of $7.8.

Stating that they continue to work on issues such as R&D, innovation, design, branding and ecologically friendly production in order for the sector to stand out in the global competitive environment, Engin said, “We exhibited our products with these features at this fair as well. The Trend Area created by our association also attracted attention and became the center of attention of foreigners. We want to increase our exports and improve our added value with value-added production, effective participation in international fairs, and the support of commercial purchasing delegations.”

“We can reach at least $1 billion of exports in textiles alone”

Pinar Tasdelen Engin emphasized that the USA is a very important market for the Turkish textile industry.

Referring to the trade figures for this country, Engin said:

“Together with the ready-made clothing industry, we are Turkiye’s second largest exporting sector with an export of $31.6 billion. We provide the highest foreign exchange inflow to Turkiye with a foreign trade surplus of approximately $20 billion. As two sectors, we exported over $1.5 billion to the USA last year. While the USA imported $2.1 billion in non-woven textile product groups in 2022, Turkiye’s exports to the USA were $128.1 million. We do not find the amount of exports we make to the world’s largest importing country sufficient. We can show our quality, innovative and sustainable production power more clearly in this market and reach at least $1 billion of exports in textiles alone.”
