Turkiye: 1 in 9 cars registered to traffic in October was “electric”

While 1 out of every 9 cars registered to traffic in Turkiye last month was “electric”, Togg’s increasing use made a great contribution to this.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, 75 thousand 494 cars were registered to traffic in October.

The increase in the number of electric cars registered in traffic this year, when Turkiye’s car Togg was put on sale, attracted attention.

Last year, in October, 963 electric cars were registered in traffic. In the same month of this year, the number reached 8 thousand 340, an increase of 766%.

In the same period, the share of electric cars in total increased from 2.2% to 11%. Thus, 1 in every 9 cars registered in traffic was electric.

When we look at the data for the January-October period, it is seen that 5 thousand 522 electric cars were registered last year, while 45 thousand 50 electric cars were registered in traffic in the 10 months of this year, an increase of 716%.

In addition to the increase in the number in question, there was also an increase in the proportion of electric vehicles in the total number of registered cars. While the share of electric cars in the total was 1.2% in the 10-month period last year, it increased to 5.9% in the same period this year.

“The fact that they are quiet and environmentally friendly are important reasons for preference.”

Aydin Erkoc, Chairman of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Federation (MASFED), made an evaluation to the AA correspondent about the developments in the electric car market.

Stating that Turkiye’s domestic and national car Togg increased the awareness and usage of electric vehicles, Erkoc said that the increase in electric vehicle sales continues to accelerate.

Erkoc explained that the widespread use of electric cars has a positive impact on the environment and that the advanced technology in these vehicles is attractive to users.

Pointing to the one-year increase in electric car sales, Erkoc said:

“The fact that electric vehicles are quiet and environmentally friendly is one of the important reasons for preference. In addition, driving comfort strengthens the interest in these cars. On the other hand, the increasing number of electric charging stations in Turkiye also positively affects sales. On the other hand, the announcements of world-famous brands that they will reduce the production of internal combustion engines shows that the interest in these vehicles is reflected in the companies. Increasing vehicle diversity in the automobile market also contributes to our industry and is beneficial for both sales and maintenance.”

Erkoc also mentioned that the base update made in Special Consumption Tax (SCT) is a positive step and added that some brands made price updates, but the update did not meet expectations and would not lead to a significant change in prices.
