Turkiye: 115 million cubic meters target from the ready-mixed concrete industry

Turkish Ready-Mixed Concrete Association President Yavuz Isik said, “We expect 115 million cubic meters of concrete production this year. We have a turnover of approximately $6 billion.”

Turkish Ready Mixed Concrete Association (THBB) President Yavuz Isik, in his statement to AA correspondent regarding the developments in the ready mixed concrete sector, pointed out that approximately 110 million cubic meters of concrete is produced in Turkiye and said: “We are the third country in the world that produces the most concrete by volume, after China and the United States. We also rank first in Europe in terms of quality and volume.”

Isik stated that 1.5 million cubic meters of concrete was produced in the country when the Association was established in 1988, and said, “We expect 115 million cubic meters of concrete production this year. We have a turnover of approximately $6 billion. Ready-mixed concrete is a very important building material. It is not possible to replace it with any other material.”

“We are against the sale of concrete at exorbitant prices”

Referring to the investigation initiated by the Competition Board against 17 enterprises for the cement and ready-mixed concrete sector, focusing on the earthquake zone, Isik said:

“Earthquakes do not kill people, rotten buildings kill people. We have over 50 thousand casualties here.”

Pointing out that inspections have increased in this context, Isik continued his words as follows:

“Here, too, undoubtedly, not only in the earthquake zone, but all over Turkiye, some companies are making unfair profits by using commodity prices and energy prices as an excuse in the inflationary environment. We hear these too, but it is less common among our members. We are also against the sale of concrete at exorbitant prices. We should not give room to opportunists. Because building materials are very important. Especially in our country, which is an earthquake zone.

Reminding that the relevant ministries and municipalities are working on the recycling of earthquake-resistant buildings in Istanbul, Isik said, “In terms of quality, we, as Birlik, conducted earthquake performance analyzes in Istanbul. We have a center called the earthquake performance analysis center.” Here, we determined whether the buildings were earthquake resistant using both advanced techniques and scanning methods. Here we receive applications from our citizens, industrial organizations and municipalities. We make some findings here and report them.”

Fair and congress will be held in Istanbul

Isik also touched upon the fair and congress organization that will start in Istanbul on November 8 and where representatives of the ready-mixed concrete industry will come together, and said that they have not held fairs and congresses for the last 5 years.

Explaining that they established a scientific committee of 67 people for the congress, Isik stated that the topics to be discussed at the congress were determined in advance.

Noting that they have organized 11 fairs so far, Isik said, “Participants, especially from abroad, will come. They will see new technologies there. They will undoubtedly follow new developments in new technology related to energy saving, digitalization and electronic tracking system.”

Domestic and national ready-mixed concrete production

Emphasizing that the teams and equipment used for production were imported in previous years, Isik said, “Today, we export a significant part of the teams and equipment in the ready-mixed concrete sector, perhaps 70-80%. Turkiye earns serious foreign currency from this.”

Explaining that ready-mixed concrete production is local and national, Isik stated that they have switched to green energy in electricity production.

Isik said, “Many of our factories meet their needs with the solar panels and wind power plants they install. They do not use energy and electricity by converting from natural gas. We attach great importance to clean energy.”
