Electric car sales in the Turkish automobile market increased by 465.3% in the first six months of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 12,792.
According to the data compiled from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkiye increased by 55.3% in the January-June period of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 555 thousand 867.
In the said period, automobile sales increased by 54.5% to 429 thousand 870 units, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 58.2% to 125 thousand 997 units.
Gasoline car sales rank first
In the Turkish automobile market, in the first 6 months of this year, gasoline cars took the first place with 296 thousand 79 sales, while diesel cars took the second place with 72 thousand 458 units.
Hybrid automobile sales were 43 thousand 649 units and autogas automobile sales were 4 thousand 892 units.
Electric car sales, on the other hand, were much higher than autogas car sales, with 12,792 units. In the January-June period of last year, 2,263 electric cars were sold.
465.3% increase in electric car sales
While gasoline car sales increased by 52.6% in the first half of this year, diesel car sales increased by 53.6% compared to the same period of 2022, autogas car sales decreased by 7.6%.
In this period, hybrid car sales increased by 47.5% and electric car sales by 465.3%.
The share of electric cars increased from 0.8% to 3%
The share of gasoline cars, which was 69.7% in January-June 2022, decreased to 68.9% in the same period of this year.
In the said period, the share of diesel cars remained stable at 16.9%, while the share of autogas cars decreased from 1.9% to 1.1%.
The share of electric cars in total sales increased from 0.8% to 3%. The share of hybrid cars decreased from 10.6% to 10.2%.
