Turkiye’s e-commerce volume increased by 109.7%

Turkiye’s first 6-month e-commerce volume increased by 109.7% compared to the same period last year, reaching ₺652.7 billion.

The Ministry of Commerce’s “Electronic Trade Information System (ETBIS)” data for the January-June period of this year has been announced.

According to the compilation of data by the AA correspondent, while the ratio of e-commerce to general trade was 18.5% in the first 6 months of last year, the said ratio increased by 3.2% in the same period of this year and reached 19.1%.

In the January-June period of this year, e-commerce volume in Turkiye was calculated as ₺652.7 billion, an increase of 109.7% compared to the same period last year.

Order numbers increased by 20% in the January-June period compared to the same period last year, reaching 2 billion 556 million. Retail e-commerce volume increased by 119% compared to the same period last year, reaching ₺390 billion.

In terms of payment methods, 62.7% of the total e-commerce volume consisted of card transactions with ₺409.3 billion, 32% with money transfer/EFT and other payments with ₺209.3 billion, and 5.2% with payment at the door with ₺34.1 billion.

White goods and small household appliances come first

The share of domestic expenditures in e-commerce increased to 92.5% and reached ₺603.7 billion. Expenditures made by other countries on e-commerce sites in Turkiye amounted to ₺29.4 billion, with 4.5% , and purchases made by Turkish citizens from abroad reached ₺19.6 billion, with 3%.

When e-commerce volume was evaluated on a sector basis, white goods and small household appliances ranked first with ₺80.6 billion. This sector was followed by clothing, shoes and accessories with ₺48.9 billion, electronics with ₺38.7 billion, and airlines with ₺29.3 billion. Then came the food and supermarket, travel-transportation and storage, catering and accommodation sectors.

e-Commerce volume increased by 145.1% in clothing, shoes and accessories, 136% in electronics, and 129.6% in white goods and small household appliances, 100.9% in accommodation, 69.4% in food, 82.1% in dining, and 66.4% in travel, transportation and storage.

36.6% of the purchases made through electronic commerce were made by citizens living in Istanbul, 8.7% in Ankara and 5.9% in Izmir.

Average basket amount is ₺255

The average basket amount in e-commerce was ₺255 for the first 6 months of this year.

Sectorally, the average basket amount was ₺14 thousand 262 in the accommodation sector, ₺6 thousand 287 in home, garden, furniture and decoration, ₺3 thousand 391 in airlines, ₺830 in white goods and small household appliances, and ₺712 in the clothing, shoes and accessories sector.

While 81% of e-commerce expenditures were made in cash, 19% were paid in installments. When looked at by sector, installment transactions were preferred by 77.6% in home and decoration, 47.9% in white goods, 35.4% in clothing, and 30.7% in electronics, 22.6% in airlines, 17.4% in accommodation, 12.9% in travel, and 4.6% in books and magazines.
