Turkiye’s exports increased by 14.4% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and reached $21 billion 659 million, while its imports increased by 15.5% to $34 billion 186 million.
Temporary foreign trade data for the month of May, which was created in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Trade, was announced.
Accordingly, within the scope of the General Trade System (GTS), exports increased by 14.4% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and reached $21 billion 659 million, while imports increased by 15.5% to $34 billion 186 million.
Foreign trade deficit increased by 17.6% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and reached $12 billion 527 million.
The ratio of exports to imports, which was 64% in May 2022, decreased to 63.4% last month.
In the January-May period, compared to the same period of the previous year, exports increased by 0.1% to $102 billion 476 million, while imports increased by 8.8% to $158 billion 498 million.
Foreign trade deficit increased by 29.3% in the January-May period and reached $56 billion 22 million.
While the ratio of exports to imports was 70.2% in January-May 2022, it decreased to 64.7% in the same period of this year.
Foreign trade excluding energy and gold
Exports, excluding energy products and non-monetary gold, increased by 15.6% in May from $17 billion 434 million to $20 billion 162 million. In May, imports excluding energy products and non-monetary gold increased by 22.6% and rose from $21 billion 263 million to $26 billion 60 million.
Foreign trade deficit excluding energy products and non-monetary gold was $5 billion 898 million in May. Foreign trade volume increased by 19.4% and reached $46 billion 222 million. In the said month, the ratio of exports to imports excluding energy and gold was 77.4%.
