Turkiye earned $829 million from aquaculture exports in the January-June period.
According to the statement made by Aegean Exporters’ Associations, while the export of fisheries from the whole country was 117 thousand tons in the first half of last year, it reached 125 thousand tons with an increase of approximately 7% in the same period of this year.
On the basis of value, exports, which were $760 million in the first 6 months last year, increased by 9% in the same period of this year to $829 million.
While sea bass ranked first with an export of $263 million, a foreign exchange inflow of $215.7 million was provided from sea bream exports. Salmon and trout were among the other leading exports.
Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Associations Sector Board Chairman Sinan Kiziltan, whose views are included in the statement, stated that Turkiye has become one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of sea bass and sea bream with its investment in the aquaculture sector in the last 25 years.
Noting that they are among the top 5 countries in the world for tuna, Kiziltan said, “We, as the aquaculture sector, achieved an export of $1 billion 650 million in 2022.
Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association President Bedri Girit stated that a large portion of $560 million of exports of the aquaculture sector is made by aquaculture exporters in the Aegean Region.
