Turkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 4.5% in August

Turkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 4.5% in August compared to the same month last year, reaching approximately 3 billion 681 million 350 thousand cubic meters. While the highest natural gas import was from Russia with 2 billion 269 million 930 thousand cubic meters, this country was followed by Azerbaijan with 937 million 700 thousand cubic meters and Algeria with 399 million 840 thousand cubic meters.

According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority for August, approximately 3 billion 281 million 520 thousand cubic meters of imports were made through pipelines and 399 million 840 thousand cubic meters were made through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

While natural gas imports via pipelines decreased by 7.7% in August compared to the same month last year, LNG imports increased by 35%. Total natural gas imports decreased by 4.5% in this period, reaching approximately 3 billion 681 million 350 thousand cubic meters.

Most natural gas imports are from Russia

While the highest natural gas import was from Russia with 2 billion 269 million 930 thousand cubic meters in August, this country was followed by Azerbaijan with 937 million 700 thousand cubic meters and Algeria with 399 million 840 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas imports from Algeria increased by 35%, natural gas imports from Azerbaijan increased by 74% and imports from Russia increased by 7.4%. Natural gas imports from Iran decreased by 91.8% in August.

Gas consumption of residences decreased by 11.9%

During the said period, natural gas consumption in the country decreased by 1% and reached approximately 3 billion 507 million 260 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption of the industrial sector was recorded as approximately 994 million 340 thousand cubic meters, with a decrease of 1.9%. Natural gas consumption in power plants decreased by 4.9% to 1 billion 640 million 890 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption in residences decreased by 11.9% in this period, reaching 277 million 980 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas stock amount increased

The amount of natural gas stock in Turkiye increased by 41.6% in August compared to the same month last year, reaching approximately 5 billion 258 million 320 thousand cubic meters.

4 billion 968 million 650 thousand cubic meters (94.5%) of the natural gas stock is in underground storage facilities, and 289 million 670 thousand cubic meters (5.5%) is in LNG terminals.
