WhatsApp to introduce original quality photo & video sharing feature

WhatsApp has recently introduced so many new features that users have been asking for a long time. The app has also gone through some UI and UX changes based on Material Design 3 guidelines.

Now there’s a new beta update WhatsApp has released, version 2.23.18.12. According to WABetaInfo, the key feature of this update is the ability for users to send photos and videos in their original quality. This follows the previous beta version which introduced high-quality photo sending to a limited group of testers.

WhatsApp will soon allow sending photos and videos in their original quality

Historically, WhatsApp has faced criticism for compressing images, often leading to diminished clarity and loss of minute details. Even the recent ‘high-quality’ photo-sharing feature was not exempt from light compression. But the forthcoming update promises to change this narrative. Inside sources and screenshots suggest that WhatsApp is inching closer to a full-fledged release of the original quality media sharing option.

The upcoming feature promises a seamless user experience. It will provide a convenient entry point in the document picker for selecting photos and videos from the in app gallery. Despite being labeled as ‘documents’, the process has been optimized to avoid unnecessary navigation through menus or folders. In essence, users can easily share media in its original quality with minimal effort.

Currently, this eagerly awaited feature is still in its developmental phase. Additionally, WhatsApp continues to innovate, with the latest beta updates hinting at a revamped calling interface, AI-generated stickers, and the ability to schedule group calls.
