$3.7 Billion Investment to Boost Energy Efficiency in the Transportation Sector

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has announced a $3.7 billion investment plan for the years 2024-2030 to enhance energy efficiency in the transportation sector. A statement shared on the ministry’s official account emphasized prioritizing energy-efficient solutions and applications in the transportation industry through the Second National Energy Efficiency Action Plan.

The action plan, detailed in a graphical representation covering the 2024-2030 period, outlines key objectives for the transportation sector.

According to the plan, a total of $3.7 billion will be invested during this period to improve energy efficiency in the transportation sector. The investment aims to:

  1. Facilitate the usage of over 1 million electric vehicles on the roads by 2030 by establishing energy and charging infrastructure.
  2. Develop mechanisms utilizing artificial intelligence to detect traffic density, allowing for the adjustment of signalization durations.
  3. Implement initiatives for freight transportation on high-speed train lines.
  4. Establish low carbon emission zones in cities, restricting entry for heavy-tonnage vehicles to these areas.

The energy efficiency initiatives outlined in the plan are expected to result in a saving of 9 million tons of oil equivalent in energy and a reduction of 26.8 million tons in emissions during the specified period. The Ministry’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmentally conscious transportation aligns with global efforts to address climate change.
