A ‘discounted cargo’ protocol was signed between THY and TIM

A protocol was signed between Turkish Airlines (THY) and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), which offers exporters the opportunity to “carry their products to 40 destinations in 31 countries with discounts of up to 30%”.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at THY General Directorate, THY Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat said that Turkiye has broken historical records in the field of exports and that exporters know how to turn the crises they are going through into opportunities.

Pointing to the contribution of exports to the country’s economy and the records broken in this field, Bolat said, “We are glad to know that we, as the national flag carrier airline, contributed to these records. As THY, we work with this awareness and determination in our plans.”

Stating that as Turkiye’s export champion of the service sector, they have brought $14 billion to the country this year, Bolat noted that they supported everyone in the promotion of the country’s values and riches in every field and the contribution to be made to the country, and they will continue to do so.

Bolat stated that they continue to increase their contributions to exporters and the country with the 3rd protocol they will sign with TIM, adding that Turkish Cargo has been in a growth trend with a rapidly increasing momentum for a long time.

Referring to the successful results achieved by Turkish Cargo in recent years, Bolat said, “Both in 2021 and 2022, it became the fastest growing air cargo company in the international arena and increased its market share to 5%. These numbers made Turkish Cargo, our rising value, the 4th among the best air cargo companies.”

“Within the scope of the protocol, an export of $2.1 billion is foreseen”

Ahmet Bolat stated that in the first two protocols signed with TIM during the epidemic period, they provided cargo support in different items to international destinations determined in 4-month periods and they made a great contribution to the country’s economy, and continued his words as follows:

“With today’s protocol, we are making discounts of up to 30% on cargo requests of 1 ton and above in 40 destinations that we have determined together with TIM. In addition, approximately 15 thousand tons of capacity is planned for these destinations. Within the scope of this protocol, in addition to general cargo, there are also perishable cargoes such as fruits and vegetables, eggs and fish. The projection of $2.1 billion of exports within the scope of this protocol reveals the importance of our signatures today.

“Our exporters will be able to deliver products to 31 countries with a discount of up to 30%”

TIM President Mustafa Gultepe emphasized that air cargo transportation is of critical importance for Turkiye’s exports and said, “The pride of our country, THY, carries out very important projects that serve the Turkish brand in every field of the aviation industry and that make us proud. Our exporters have the opportunity to reach distant markets in a short time with air cargo.”

Stating that Turkiye’s average export range is 3 thousand 65 kilometers and they aim to increase this figure to the world average of 4 thousand 744 kilometers, Gultepe said:

“In this sense, the air cargo option is extremely important for us to increase our average export distance. Within the scope of the protocol, significant advantages will be provided in the USA, Pakistan, Indonesia and Nigeria, which are also among the targets of the Far Countries Strategy. We have determined the target destinations to be the most efficient for our exporters. Our exporters will be able to deliver their products to 40 cities in 31 countries with discounts of up to 30%.”

Gultepe stated that this year, air cargo exports exceeded $10.3 billion and said, “Our air cargo load is 158 thousand tons. Hopefully, together with the protocol, we will increase the share of air transportation even higher.”
