Approximately 392 million tons of cargo were handled in Turkish ports

Approximately 392 million tons of cargo and 9.4 million TEU containers were handled in Turkish ports in 9 months. 21 million 745 thousand 148 tons of the cargo handled were carried by Turkish flag ships, and 270 million 862 thousand 484 tons were carried by foreign flag ships.

According to the data of the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, in the January-September period of this year, the amount of cargo and containers handled in Turkish ports fluctuated month by month.

391 million 801 thousand 393 tons of cargo were handled at the ports in 9 months.

In this context, 43 million 915 thousand 78 tons of cargo handling were recorded in January, 37 million 990 thousand 544 tons in February, 43 million 357 thousand 617 tons in March, 44 million 172 thousand 388 tons in April, and 46 million 190 thousand 320 tons in May. 45 million 282 thousand 114 tons of cargo handling were recorded in June, 44 million 158 thousand 553 tons in July, 44 million 275 thousand 760 tons in August and 42 million 459 thousand 19 tons in September.

In the same period, 21 million 745 thousand 148 tons of cargo handled were carried by Turkish flag ships and 270 million 862 thousand 484 tons were carried by foreign flag ships.

The amount of cargo handled in the same period last year was calculated as 408 million 880 thousand 380 tons.

Container handling increased on an annual basis

The amount of containers handled in the January-September period was 9 million 369 thousand 438 TEU. In the same period last year, 9 million 355 thousand 358 TEU containers were handled.

When we look at the amount of containers handled by month in this period this year, it is seen that it was 994 thousand 92 TEU in January, 840 thousand 593 TEU in February, and 1 million 6 thousand 756 TEU in March. It was seen that there were 1 million 28 thousand 698 TEU in April, 1 million 123 thousand 504 TEU in May, 1 million 102 thousand 433 TEU in June, 1 million 102 thousand 185 TEU in July, 1 million 107 thousand 235 TEU in August and 1 million 63 thousand 943 TEU in September.

7 million 246 thousand 681 TEU of containers handled at ports were for foreign trade purposes. Of these, 731 thousand 553 TEUs were carried out by Turkish flag ships and 6 million 515 thousand 128 TEUs by foreign flagged ships.

Most cargo handling is from Kocaeli

It was determined that the most cargo handling in 9 months was done from Kocaeli, Aliaga and İskenderun ports. 61 million 562 thousand 645 tons of cargo were handled in Kocaeli, 60 million 209 thousand 793 tons in Aliaga and 45 million 531 thousand 984 tons in Iskenderun.

When we look at the cargo handling carried out through ports on a country basis, Russia ranked first with 76 million 975 thousand 955 tons. This country was followed by Italy with 34 million 619 thousand 140 tons and the USA with 21 million 802 thousand 271 tons.

When we look at the amount of container handling carried out in the first three places on the basis of port authorities, Ambarlı was at the top of the list with 2 million 443 thousand 731 TEU. This port was followed by Kocaeli regional port authorities with 1 million 586 thousand 102 TEU and Mersin regional port authorities with 1 million 453 thousand 977 TEU.

In container handling carried out in ports on a country basis, Greece ranked first with 955 thousand 593 TEU. This country was followed by Egypt with 862 thousand 945 TEU and Israel with 745 thousand 259 TEU.
