Borsa Istanbul Commences the New Year with an Upward Trend on the First Trading Day

Borsa Istanbul, Turkey’s stock exchange, initiated the first trading day of the new year on an upward trajectory, reflecting positive market sentiment. The BIST 100 index commenced the day with a 0.96% increase, starting at 7,543.25 points.

Closing the final trading day of 2023 with a 1% gain at 7,470 points, the BIST 100 index demonstrated a remarkable 34.7% surge throughout the year.

Entering the new week with an optimistic start, the BIST 100 maintained a positive outlook, hovering around the 7,550-point mark during the initial trading sessions. Noteworthy sectors at the opening included transportation, communication, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The sports sector, experiencing a 1.2% decline, was the sole sector to commence with a decrease. Conversely, the banking and holding sectors began the day with a 1% value increase.

Among the stocks included in the BIST 100 index, the top gainers at the beginning of the day were identified as follows:

  • THYAO
  • KLSER
  • KMPUR
  • PGSUS
  • MIATK

Conversely, stocks that commenced the day with a decline included:

  • AKSA
  • TTRAK
  • DOAS
  • CWENE
  • SDTTR

Analyzing the overall performance of Borsa Istanbul, it was observed that KUYAS, ORMA, and RODRG experienced the highest value increases at the opening. On the other hand, IDGYO, BAYRK, and UNLU shares witnessed the most significant declines, around 5%, in the initial transactions.

Today’s highlighted data includes both domestic and international manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) figures. Additionally, the United States will release its Manufacturing PMI data.
