Economists Anticipate Lower Global Inflation in 2024

Economists from around the world are expecting lower inflation rates for the year 2024, according to the results of the “Economic Experts Survey” conducted quarterly by the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Germany and the Institute for Economic Policy (IWP) in Switzerland.

According to the survey, the global inflation expectation for this year has decreased from 6% three months ago to 5%, and for the next year, it has dropped from 5.2% to 5%.

Economists predict that the inflation rate will further decrease to 3.6% in 2027.

Economists anticipate significant variations in inflation rates depending on the region. The inflation expectation for this year is 3.1% for Western Europe and 2.4% for North America, well below the global average. In contrast, the 2024 inflation expectations are 29.1% for South America and 45% for North Africa, exceeding the global average.

For the year 2027, economists expect inflation to decline to 2.1% in Western Europe and 2.4% in North America.

Niklas Potrafke, a researcher at Ifo, commented on the findings, stating, “Inflation expectations for this year are significantly lower compared to the previous year.”

The survey, conducted from December 7 to December 21, 2023, involved 1431 economists from 124 countries.
