Ankara, Baghdad to Discuss Resumption of KRG Oil Exports

A Turkish delegation is set to arrive in Baghdad on Monday for a meeting with the Iraqi Oil Ministry to discuss and potentially resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region next week.

Iraqi Oil Ministry Spokesperson Assem Jihad confirmed the report at a press conference held in the capital city earlier today, expressing his anticipation that the Kurdistan Region would resume oil exports in the coming week.

In a recent statement to the official Iraqi newspaper al-Sabah, Iraqi Deputy Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Abadi confirmed that an agreement had been reached between Iraq and Turkey.

Under this agreement, he added,a delegation from both countries would convene in Baghdad on November 19 to deliberate the export of oil from the Kurdistan Region, specifically through the Turkish Ceyhan port.

Abadi noted that previous messages exchanged between the two sides underscored the mutual recognition of the importance of promptly resuming oil exports from the Kurdistan Region.

The export of oil from the Kurdistan Region was suspended by Turkey on March 25, 2023, following a decision from the International Court of Arbitration in Paris. The decision came in response to a complaint filed by the Iraqi federal government back in 2015, and both parties agreed to halt the oil exports at that time.
