Massive investment plan for Turkiye’s reconstruction emerges after earthquake

In a comprehensive effort to revitalize the region hit by earthquakes last year, a multitude of projects are on the horizon for implementation in 2024, encompassing 11 provinces affected by the seismic events stemming from Kahramanmaraş.

An AA News compilation from the 2024 Investment Program reveals a diverse range of investments in sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, education, transportation,tourism, and housing earmarked for the earthquake-stricken region.

Agriculture is set to receive a significant boost with a 2 billion lira allocation for earthquake repairs managed by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) General Directorate across the 11 provinces under flood protection measures.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is poised to invest 208 million lira in the “Construction of İskenderun Fisherman’s Harbor After the Earthquake Project,” anticipated to conclude in 2025.

Notably, the Ministry of Industry and Technology has earmarked 5 billion lira for the “Construction of Industrial Facilities in the Earthquake Zone Project” in 2024.

Addressing damages incurred by earthquakes in the railway network, the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) General Directorate plans to invest 11 billion lira, with the project expected to reach completion in 2027.

Under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, the “Turkiye Post-Earthquake Recovery and Reconstruction Project” aims for an investment of around 6 billion lira in 2024.

Another pivotal project within the Ministry’s purview is the “Post-Earthquake Reconstruction,” estimated to involve an expenditure of 3.7 billion lira.

Furthermore, the rehabilitation of a combined 66,800 square meters of libraries across Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Malatya, Şanlıurfa, and Osmaniye is set to take place as part of a distinct project, entailing an estimated expenditure of 200 million lira.

The General Directorate of Iller Bank AŞ is gearing up for substantial investments in drinking water and sewage infrastructure across earthquake-affected cities.

Drinking water projects will witness a 1.2 billion lira investment for storage and urban infrastructure projects in Adana and Kahramanmaraş in 2024.

In a bid to bolster sewage networks, wastewater treatment plants, and stormwater networks in the aforementioned provinces, an estimated expenditure of 3.7 billion lira has been outlined.
