Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that the needs of 1.5 million households are met with the daily 4 million cubic meters of natural gas produced in the Sakarya Gas Field.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced the data regarding the natural gas supply studies carried out in 2023.
Noting that they increased the number of settlements with natural gas access to 836 by the end of 2023, Minister Bayraktar said, “On the one hand, we have introduced the domestic gas we discovered in the Black Sea to the service of our citizens, and on the other hand, we have introduced 93 new settlements to the comfort of natural gas in the last year. The population with access to natural gas increased by 1.1 million compared to 2022, reaching 71.3 million.”
“As of the end of 2018, we provided natural gas to all of our 81 provinces.”
While making an assessment of the geographical and demographic use of natural gas in Turkiye, Minister Bayraktar noted the following:
In 2002, natural gas was used in only 5 cities: Ankara, Istanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya and Eskisehir. The number of settlements reaching natural gas was 57. In line with the goal set by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, we have provided natural gas to all of our 81 provinces as of the end of 2018.
Reminding that natural gas was delivered to 70.2 million population in 743 settlements by the end of 2022, Minister Bayraktar stated that they increased the number of settlements with natural gas access to 836 by the end of 2023.

“We are writing a success story”
Minister Bayraktar said:
“We produce 4 million cubic meters of natural gas every day at the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea and supply it to the grid. We meet the natural gas needs of one and a half million households from here. Of course, we will not stop there. We will increase daily production first to 10 million cubic meters and then to 40 million cubic meters. We are writing a success story in the production of natural gas, the widespread use of it and its delivery to homes and workplaces.”
