Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek said that housing supply will be increased in order to prevent price increases in rents, new social housing projects will be developed to compensate for losses in the housing supply caused by earthquakes, and access to housing for low-income citizens will be increased.
Simsek answered CHP Artvin Deputy Ugur Bayraktutan’s written parliamentary question regarding rent increases.
Stating that the “real rent” index, which was 475.07 in November 2018, reached 1888.02 in November 2023, Simsek stated that the increase rate in the 2018-2023 period was 297.42%.
Simsek stated that the monthly rent increase rate, which was 9.52% in September 2023, decreased to 7.91% in October, 5.97% in November and 4.48% in December, and said:
“In the medium term, housing supply will be increased in order to combat inflation and prevent price increases in rents, new social housing projects will be developed to compensate for losses in the housing stock caused by earthquakes, and low-income citizens’ access to housing will be increased.”
