Ministry of Trade Upholds Measures to Protect Domestic Fabric Producers Against Unfair Competition

The Ministry of Trade has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding local fabric producers against unfair competition by preventing the circumvention of protective measures in fabric imports through origin manipulation.

In a statement released on the ministry’s social media account, it was emphasized that anti-dumping measures, initiated in 2001 to counteract unfair competition and prevent the influx of dumped imports, continue to be in effect for artificial and synthetic woven fabrics.

The ministry’s investigation revealed that in previous years, some countries had attempted to render the anti-dumping measures ineffective by channeling imports through other nations. The statement disclosed that these countries have now been included within the scope of the protective measures.

The announcement stated, “It has been observed that, to undermine the anti-dumping measures in place for some time, these products are being imported into our country through other nations not subject to these measures. The investigation conducted by our ministry has been completed, and as of today, the anti-dumping measures are applicable to countries supplying dumped products to Turkey, even if there is no domestic production taking place.”

Highlighting the significance of artificial and synthetic woven fabrics, particularly in the ready-made garment sector, and their crucial role in Turkey’s textile industry, the statement reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to effectively implementing import policies in line with the goals of supporting local production and employment.

The ministry underscored its determination to continue protecting domestic producers against unfair competition in imports. It emphasized, “Hence, companies attempting to bring in dumped products under different origins will not be tolerated.”

This move is part of the Ministry of Trade’s broader strategy to promote fair trade practices, boost local industries, and sustain employment growth in alignment with national economic objectives.
