New era in banking: What is “Request Payment”? What is required to use the “Request Payment” system?

The “Request Payment” system, carried out in partnership with the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkiye (CBRT) and the Interbank Card Center (BKM), has been made available to many banks. Thanks to this system, citizens will be able to request money transfers from their creditors via mobile banking. The system provides convenience in matters such as reminding tenants to pay rent and sending pocket money to students. So, what exactly is “Request payment”? What is required to use the “Request Payment” system?

According to the information on the CBRT’s website, the “Request Payment” system is defined as a value-added service that aims to improve customers’ usage experiences in the Instant and Continuous Transfer of Funds (FAST) system.

The system is based on the principle that the creditor requests payment from the debtor before payments, and the debtor responds to this request. With this feature, customers can create a payment request, view pending payment requests, and transfer money by accepting incoming requests.

1HOW DOES THE “REQUEST PAYMENT” SYSTEM WORK?

With the “Request Payment” system, the IBAN number, name, request amount and request validity period of the person to whom money is requested to be sent are entered through the bank. The other party’s bank sends a warning via the application and asks whether the payment will be made or not. If approval is given, money is sent immediately via FAST.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO USE THE “REQUEST PAYMENT” SYSTEM?

To use the “Request Payment” system, the creditor must know the debtor’s account information, that is, Easy Address (Kolay Adres), TR QR Code, or IBAN + Name Surname.

CAN A “REQUEST PAYMENT” REQUEST BE REJECTED?

The debtor may respond with acceptance or rejection in response to the “Request Payment”. To reject the payment, you can proceed by pressing the ‘Reject’ button. If the sender has accepted the “Request Payment” request, they cannot reject it. The receiver can cancel the Request Payment request if the sender has not accepted it yet, but cannot cancel it after acceptance.
