Sakarya, Turkey’s 7th largest exporter following Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Izmir, Ankara, and Gaziantep, marked the beginning of the new year with $451.6 million in foreign sales in January, a notable portion of which came from the automotive sector.
According to data from the Automotive Industry Association, Sakarya contributed significantly to Turkey’s overall vehicle exports in the first month of the year. Out of the 112,737 vehicles produced nationwide in January, Sakarya’s automotive sector accounted for 76,710 units, demonstrating a robust export performance.
In terms of percentages, Sakarya’s automotive exports made up 87.3% of the city’s total exports, generating $394.6 million in revenue for the country. The city exported a total of 14,661 vehicles, equivalent to 76.8% of the 19,090 vehicles produced locally in January.
The figures indicate a remarkable export achievement for Sakarya, where 7 out of every 10 vehicles manufactured during the month found their way to international markets. The leading automotive manufacturers based in Sakarya, including Toyota, Otokar, and TürkTraktör, played a pivotal role in this success.
Sakarya’s production output in January included 14,840 cars, 141 minibuses, 38 buses, 47 small trucks, and 4,024 tractors, averaging a daily production of 616 vehicles on the assembly lines.
Maintaining its leadership in both production and exports, Toyota contributed significantly to Sakarya’s success, exporting 13,048 out of the 14,840 cars produced. Otokar secured the second position, exporting 62 units of minibuses, buses, and small trucks out of the total 226 produced. TürkTraktör took the third spot, exporting 1,551 out of the 4,024 tractors manufactured.
The success of Sakarya’s automotive sector underscores its growing significance in the global automotive industry, further solidifying the city’s reputation as a key player in Turkey’s export landscape.
