Holiday Boost for E-commerce: Anticipated Sales Reach ₺200-300 Billion

In the e-commerce sector, which is buoyed by holiday shopping, sales of ₺200-300 billion are expected to be made this holiday.

While there was activity in many sectors before the upcoming Ramadan Feast, one of the sectors that was happy was e-commerce. Industry professionals are very pleased with the activity before the holiday.

Commenting on the issue to the AA correspondent, Electronic Commerce Operators Association (ETID) President Hakan Cevikoglu said that Ramadan and holiday shopping continues to be done through e-commerce.

Cevikoglu emphasized that they expect e-commerce to be at the forefront in shopping this holiday, as consumers’ shopping habits have shifted towards online shopping and with the influence of campaigns, he continued as follows:

“We observe that there is a 30% increase in shopping, especially with the campaigns of special brands and marketplaces for the Eid. Dessert ingredients for the Eid, food purchases such as chocolate, sugar, coffee, and clothing and shoe purchases are among the most preferred products. At the same time, people will go out of the city intensively due to the holiday. As they turn to summer tires online for their travels, there is an increase in this area compared to normal periods. However, I can say that there is a similar density in flight reservations. We expect sales of ₺200-300 billion during the Eid al-Fitr period, when discounts of 25-30% are made on all product groups.”

“The average basket amount this Eid is ₺750”

Cevikoglu stated that the average basket amount this holiday is expected to be ₺750.

Cevikoglu, who also gave suggestions to consumers while shopping for the holiday, said:

“A new regulation in our industry does not allow e-commerce companies to make discounts as they wish. Accordingly, you must underwrite the price at which you purchased sales in the last 30 days. So, this means that the sales price of a ₺100 product cannot be sold by first increasing it to ₺300 and then giving an 80% discount on that product. Since companies that do this will face serious penalties, consumers can shop with peace of mind during this period. However, I recommend consumers to prefer sites with the ‘Seal of Trust’ for their shopping.”
