Istanbul Exporters’ Association Achieves $3.07 Billion in First Quarter Exports, Marking 13.9% Growth Year-on-Year

Istanbul Exporters’ Associations (IIB) exported $3 billion 70 million in the first quarter of the year, with an increase of 13.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the statement made by IIB, with more than 20 thousand companies operating in different cities that are members of its seven exporters’ associations, IIB sold products to the markets of 186 countries in the first quarter and increased its share in the country’s exports to 5.5%.

According to the data, IIB, which exported $3 billion 70 million in the first quarter with an increase of 13.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, made the highest export in value terms to Iraq in the first three months of the year with $256 million. The most products sold to Iraq were poultry, animal products, grains, pulses, oilseeds and their products. In the said period, IIB exported the most in value terms to Germany, the United States, Italy and the United Kingdom, after Iraq.

In the first quarter, exports to Germany were highlighted by ships, yachts, services, hazelnuts, and products; to the United States by cereals, pulses, oilseeds, furniture, and paper products; to Italy by hazelnuts, products, ships, yachts, and services; and to the United Kingdom by furniture, paper, forest products, cereals, pulses, oilseeds, and products.

Based on country groups, the region to which IIB exported the most was the European Union countries with $776 million. Exports to the EU increased by 38.3% compared to the previous period.

Istanbul exporters exported over $1 billion in March

The Union, which exported over $1 billion in March, exported the most last month to Iraq, Germany and Italy.

Among the associations within IIB, the Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds, and Products Exporters’ Association (IHBIR) achieved exports of $958 million in the first quarter of 2024, marking a 2.8% increase compared to the same period last year. The Istanbul Furniture, Paper, and Forest Products Exporters’ Association achieved exports of $916 million, while the Ship, Yacht, and Services Exporters’ Association (GYHIB) achieved a remarkable 153.9% increase with exports reaching $452 million. The Istanbul Fishery and Animal Products Exporters’ Association (ISHIB) saw a 14.1% increase in exports amounting to $308 million. Additionally, the Istanbul Hazelnut and Products Exporters’ Association (IFMIB) achieved exports of $238.5 million, showing a 24.1% increase. The Istanbul Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association achieved exports of $145 million, representing a 19.2% increase. Finally, the Istanbul Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association (KUMIB) realized exports of approximately $79 million, marking a 6.5% increase.

“We completed the first quarter of the year successfully”

IIB Coordinator President Kazim Tayci, whose views were included in the statement, stated that they completed the first quarter of the year successfully and added:

“When we look at the first quarter data, we exported $3 billion 70 million. There was a 13.9% increase in exports compared to the same period of the previous year. In the first quarter of the year, we grew further in our markets to which we exported the most. Our exports to Iraq increased by 53%, to Germany by 75%, and to Italy by 77% compared to the same period of the previous year. We continue our stable export increase. I am happy to say that we have successfully completed the first quarter of the year with the events we organized for our sectors at home and abroad. As of April, I have taken over the position of coordinator of the Istanbul Exporters’ Association. IIB will continue to fly the export flag in different countries of the world with the events it will organize in the coming months.”
