TCDD will transport LPG by rail

While LPG transportation activity by rail is licensed for the first time in Turkiye, TCDD will be able to provide LPG transportation services with 966 wagons with a carrying capacity of 60 thousand 83 tons with the license received from EMRA.

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) granted a license to the Republic of Turkiye State Railways (TCDD) Transportation Inc. to carry out liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) transportation activities by rail. Thus, LPG transportation by rail was licensed for the first time in Turkiye.

According to the written statement made by EMRA, Turkiye is one of the largest LPG markets in the world in terms of autogas consumption and the number of autogas vehicles and stations.

In Turkiye, 45 separate licensed companies operate in the LPG market. 39 of the license holders continue their activities in the field of pipeline and 5 in the field of maritime transportation.

In this context, TCDD applied to EMRA for a license to be the first in this field and to carry out LPG transportation by rail. After the necessary examinations and evaluations, EMRA granted TCDD a license to transport LPG by rail. Thus, LPG transportation by rail was licensed for the first time in Turkiye.

Within the scope of the transportation license, TCDD will be able to provide transportation services to all over the country with 966 wagons with a carrying capacity of 60 thousand 83 tons. The step in question is expected to make a great contribution to the Turkish economy and the LPG sector.
