The first harvested wheat of the season was traded in Gaziantep Commodity Exchange

The first wheat of the season, harvested in the Yumurtalik district of Adana, was traded in the Gaziantep Commodity Exchange (GTB).

According to the statement made by GTB, the first wheat of the season, harvested by farmer Erol Benli in Zeytinbeli Mahallesi of Adana’s Yumurtalik district, was brought to Gaziantep.

Wheat, which was traded in GTB Cereals-Pulses Sales Halls, found buyers at ₺7 and 75 kurus per kilogram.

GTB Board Member Ali Alagoz, whose views were included in the statement, wished that the first crop of wheat would lead to a fruitful and lucrative harvest season.

Congratulating Farmer Benli for producing the first crop of wheat, Alagoz said that they expect combine harvesters to enter the wheat fields as of the 25th of May in the Cukurova region, where Turkiye’s first wheat harvest took place.

Emphasizing that climatic conditions, irrigation and early field sowing play an important role in the formation of early wheat harvest, Alagoz noted that they expect wheat harvest to start from the first week of June in arid lands and from the 25th of June in irrigated lands in Gaziantep and its districts.

Alagoz stated that February and March rains had a positive effect on agricultural lands, and according to the estimations made by the relevant institutions, a wheat harvest of 19.5-20 million tons is predicted in Turkiye this year.
